In the event of an actual and immediate danger of failure or collapse of a building or structure or any part thereof, so as to endanger life or property, the Director of Public Safety and Service shall cause the necessary work to be done to render such building or structure or part thereof temporarily safe, whether the procedure prescribed elsewhere in this chapter has been instituted or not. For the purposes of carrying out the provisions for such work, the Director may employ such supervisors, workmen, equipment and materials as may be reasonably necessary.
