(a) Electrical. Electrical Switch Locks to be Frangible: Where the main electrical power disconnect device of a building or industrial complex is locked against unauthorized operation or vandalism, the locking device shall be frangible, and installed in a manner allowing forcible removal by fire fighters.
(b) Fire Suppression Systems.
(1) Connections for Fire Division Use.
A. The location of all private fire hydrants and sprinkler/standpipe Siamese connections shall be approved by the Fire Prevention Bureau prior to installation. Sprinkler and standpipe connections shall be no farther than 100 feet from a public or private hydrant.
B. There shall be no obstruction around a Siamese connection or between it and the fire hydrant.
C. If a Siamese is attached to a building, the wall of the building shall be constructed of a noncombustible material.
D. Siamese and private hydrants shall be protected from damage. Protective devices shall conform to applicable NFPA standards and shall be designed and installed in a manner so as not to interfere with or impede the connection of hoses.
E. Siameses shall be of the clapper type with protection plugs.
F. Hose threads shall be compatible to Oregon.
G. Siameses shall be not less than 18" nor more than 48" above finished grade.
H. Private hydrants shall conform to City standards for public hydrants. Hydrants shall be located per Fire Prevention Bureau recommendations. No vehicular parking or other obstructions shall be permitted within 10 feet of any public or private hydrant.
(2) Variances from the standards of paragraph (b)(1) may be granted by the Building and Zoning Inspection Department when, upon recommendation of the Fire Prevention Bureau, it is determined that circumstances or conditions unique to the property, including topographic features of the land on which the protected structure is located or the relationship of the protected structure to adjacent uses, would render strict application of the standards unwarrantedly burdensome without achieving a concomitant benefit to the public safety.
(c) Liquefied Petroleum Gases.
(1) Fencing. Fencing shall be required on all L.P.G. installations on commercial and industrial properties. The fencing shall be chain link fence at least six (6) feet in height with no slats or other obstructions. The fence shall be located at least five (5) feet from the tank on all sides. Protective posts shall be provided when the Bureau of Fire Prevention deems necessary.
(2) Portable Trailers. The use of portable LP-Gas trailers for on-site construction use shall meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; proper stop lights and brakes shall be provided. All such trailers shall be inspected by the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
(3) Safety Instructions to Customers. Advice and instructions as to the safe use of LP-Gas appliances and related equipment shall be provided, in printed form, to all customers by each LP-Gas dealer, distributor and installer.
(4) Knox Box Entry System. At the discretion of the Fire Prevention Bureau, a Knox Box Entry System shall be installed on all new commercial structures. The location of Knox Boxes shall be approved by the Fire Prevention Bureau.
