The Director of Public Safety shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by a majority of the members of Council. Under the direction of the Mayor he/she shall be the executive head of the Police and Fire Departments and shall be the chief administrative authority of any charity, correction and building departments, and shall perform all duties imposed by the Mayor or Council. He/she shall attend all regular meetings of Council unless excused for good cause by the Mayor or Council.
