254.06 HOSPITALIZATION INSURANCE.
Except as otherwise provided in these Codified Ordinances, the City shall provide each full-time employee with coverage under a group insurance policy underwritten by an insurance carrier of the City’s choice, as determined from time to time by Council, unless an eligible employee elects not to accept such coverage. Such policy shall provide both hospital and surgical indemnity in such an amount and under such terms as Council may from time to time determine. Where an employee’s family is eligible for coverage under such policy, the City shall provide such family coverage. Each employee shall contribute the sum of twenty dollars ($20.00) per month toward the premium of the hospitalization insurance coverage provided herein. If the City is unable to obtain coverage for any specific employee or group of employees due to underwriting requirements of the insurance carrier, the City shall take such steps as Council determines advisable, but in no event does the City guarantee the availability of such coverage and in no event shall the employee be entitled to any supplementary reimbursement as the result of the inability of the City to obtain such coverage for him or her.
Council hereby determines that such coverage shall be as high-level a benefit plan as it deems fiscally affordable. (Ord. 12-95. Passed 2-28-95.)
