1-10: ACCEPTANCE OF GIFTS:
   A.   Prohibited: The Utah municipal officers' and employees' ethics act and city ordinance (see section 2-7-4 of the Ogden municipal code) prohibits the acceptance of certain gifts by employees. Under these provisions, no employee shall knowingly receive, accept, take, seek or solicit, directly or indirectly, any gift or loan for himself/herself or for another person, if the gift or loan tends to influence the employee in the discharge of his/her official duties.
   B.   Exceptions: There are exceptions under these laws, including:
      1.   An occasional nonpecuniary gift having a value of less than fifty dollars ($50.00);
      2.   An award publicly presented;
      3.   Any bona fide loan made in the ordinary course of business; or
      4.   Political campaign contributions actually used in a political campaign.
(Note: Although the acceptance of political contributions may not violate these ethics provisions, restrictions exist regarding political activity of employees under section 2-6-13 of the Ogden Municipal Code.)
   C.   Violation: Violation of these laws and/or ordinances shall subject an employee to termination and/or criminal penalties. Employees desiring more information about these provisions may contact the Human Resources Office or the City Attorney's Office. (Adm. Order 2015-3, 6-2-2015)
