(a) Excavation for building sewers or drainage piping shall be open trench and kept open until the piping has been inspected and approved by the City Manager.
(b) The trench shall be dug so as to meet the public sewer at the "Y" connection shown on the map in the City Manager's office, but the City will not be responsible for any inaccuracy in the location of the "Y". If the "Y" is not on the location as shown, the City shall make a new tap or insert a new "Y" in the trunk line and charge the cost back to the contracting plumber or the property owner.
(c) The earth from the trench shall be placed so as not to obstruct the gutter so as to cause the least inconvenience to the public.
(d) Proper barrier and danger signals must be maintained on the bank of the trench to guard the public against accident during the progress of the work.
(e) All underground piping shall be installed so as to be firmly supported in its entire length, preferably on undisturbed bottom. Where backfill under piping is unavoidable, it shall be thoroughly tamped and compacted or placed on a sand bed.
(f) All underground piping shall be laid on an even grade, not less than one-sixteenth inch per foot in length, unless provisions are made for regular and efficient flushing. Curved pipe shall be used for every deflection from a straight line of more than six inches in two feet. After the trench work is completed, the surplus dirt must be removed from the street.
(g) For joints and connections see Sections 4101:2-51-12 et seq. Ohio State Plumbing Code.
(h) Water service pipes or any underground water pipe shall not be run or laid in the same trench as the building sewer or drainage piping, except that the building sewer is built of extra heavy cast-iron pipe, properly calked with lead and oakum, transite or fiber pipe, when made watertight.
(i) No gas piping shall be laid in the same trench with other piping at any time.
(j) After the piping in the trench has been inspected and approved, the trench shall be filled with bank sand or core sand to a depth not less than the elevation of the street pavement in street work, and not less than four inches above the house sewer from the curb line to the building which the sewer serves.
