§ 117.50 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   FAMILY.
      (1)   TYPE (A) FAMILY. One or more persons related by blood, marriage, or adoption living together as a single housekeeping unit in a dwelling unit.
      (2)   TYPE (B) FAMILY. Two unrelated persons and their children living together as a single housekeeping unit in a dwelling unit.
      (3)   TYPE (C) FAMILY. A group of not more than three unrelated persons living together as a single housekeeping unit in a dwelling unit.
      (4)   TYPE (D) FAMILY. A group of two or more persons containing within it one or more families, as defined in subsections (1) and (2) of this definition, including a husband and wife married to one another and their children, as well as adults, living together in a dwelling unit as a single housekeeping unit and management, in premises in which the adult occupants are affiliated with a bona fide not-for-profit-corporation organized for religious or charitable purposes chartered by the state of Illinois.
   PRIMARY RESIDENCE. To be considered a primary residence, and needs to live in the property for at least nine months out of a 12 month period.
      (1)   FAMILY. Shall not be construed to mean a club, a lodge fraternity/sorority house.
      (2)   The State Bed and Breakfast Act provides, in part:
         (a)   BED AND BREAKFAST ESTABLISHMENT shall mean an operator-occupied residence providing accommodations for a charge to the public with no more than five guest rooms for rent, in operation for more than ten nights in a 12-month period. Breakfast may be provided to the guests only. Bed and breakfast establishments shall not include motels, hotels, boarding houses, or food service establishments.
         (b)   OPERATOR shall mean the owner of the bed and breakfast establishment, or the owner's agent, who is required by this Act to reside in the bed and breakfast establishment, or on contiguous property.
         (c)   GUEST ROOM shall mean a sleeping room intended to serve no more than two transient guests per night.
   SHORT-TERM VACATION RENTAL. A single room, dwelling unit, an allocated space, or a portion thereof within the primary structure, separate and segregated from that portion of a residential unit occupied by the owner, in a residential zoning district offered for rent for a period shorter than 30 consecutive days to any person other than a member of the owner's family. The term SHORT-TERM/VACATION RENTAL shall not include hotels, motels, or lodging establishments licensed pursuant to Chapter 117. Any location is limited to one short-term/vacation rental space per building.
