SECTION 5.03. DEPARTMENT OF LAW.
The Director of Law shall be the chief legal officer of the City of Norwalk and shall perform, except as otherwise provided by ordinance, the functions assigned generally to a City Law Director by the general law and such other duties not inconsistent with his/her office as may be assigned to him/her by ordinance or by the Chief Executive Officer.
The Director of Law and his/her assistants, if any, shall be attorneys admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Ohio and shall be appointed at the beginning of the Chief Executive Officer’s term to serve until the next Chief Executive Officer assumes office and appoints, with the approval of the Norwalk City Council, a Law Director and any of his/her assistants, if any. The Director of Law and his/her assistants, if any, as well as Special Counsel shall be appointed and discharged by the Chief Executive Officer with the approval of City Council. This section does not apply to Special Counsel prosecuting criminal or traffic violations in the Norwalk Municipal Court. (Amended November 8, 1994)
