1454.27 HEIGHT AND AREA OF ROOF SIGNS OR BULLETINS.
   (a)   Except as provided in subsection (b) hereof, no part of an open face roof sign, erected or placed on the roof of a building of Type 3 (exterior masonry walls) or Type 4 (wood frame) construction, shall extend more than twelve feet above the roof of the building, and the area of the face of such sign shall not exceed forty square feet.
   (b)   An open face roof sign may be erected above the roof of a building of Type 3 (exterior masonry walls) construction, provided no part of such sign extends more than thirty-five feet above the roof of the building and provided the loads and reactions from such sign are transmitted to the masonry walls of the building or to the ground by, in either case, noncombustible structural members which are designed and constructed to withstand, without exceeding the allowable stresses permitted by this Building and Housing Code, all loads and reactions placed upon them. The area of an open face roof sign is not limited.
   (c)   No part of an open face roof sign, erected or placed above the roof of a building of Type 1 (fireproof), Type 2 (noncombustible) or Type 7 (unprotected metal) construction, shall extend more than seventy-five feet above the roof of such building.
   (d)   Except as provided in Section 1454.25(b), a solid face roof sign or a roof bulletin, when erected or placed on the roof of a building of Type 3 (exterior masonry walls) or Type 4 (wood frame) construction, shall not exceed forty square feet in area and no part of such roof sign or roof bulletin shall extend more than twelve feet above the roof of such building, except that such roof sign or roof bulletin may be erected or placed above the roof of a Type 3 (exterior masonry walls) construction when the area of the face of such roof sign or roof bulletin does not exceed 300 square feet in area, no part of such roof sign or roof bulletin extends more than thirty feet above the roof of such building, and all loads and reactions from such roof sign or roof bulletin are transmitted to the masonry walls of the building or to the ground by, in either case, noncombustible structural members which are designed and constructed to withstand, without exceeding the allowable stresses permitted by this Building and Housing Code, all loads and reactions placed upon them.
   A solid face roof sign or roof bulletin may be erected or placed above the roof of a building of Type 3 (exterior masonry walls) construction when the roof sign or roof bulletin has a height of not more than thirty-five feet above the roof of such building, and an area of not more than 1,200 square feet when all loads and reactions from such roof sign or roof bulletin are transmitted to the ground by steel or reinforced concrete structural members which are designed and constructed to withstand, without exceeding the allowable stresses permitted by this Building and Housing Code, all loads and reactions placed upon or transmitted to the structural members.
   (e)   A solid face roof sign or roof bulletin, when erected or placed above the roof of a building of Type 1 (fireproof), Type 2 (noncombustible) or Type 7 (unprotected metal) construction, shall not exceed 1,200 square feet in area and no part of such roof sign or roof bulletin shall extend more than thirty-five feet above the roof of such building.
