672.17 POINTING AND DISCHARGING FIREARMS.
   (a)   No person shall, intentionally, recklessly or negligently, point or aim a firearm at or toward another person, or discharge a firearm so pointed or aimed, or maim or injure a person by the discharge of a firearm so pointed or aimed, where there is a risk of physical harm to persons based on the circumstances then existing and the person so pointing or aiming the firearm knows or should know of the risk of physical harm to persons.
   (b)   This section does not extend to cases in which firearms are used in self- defense, in the discharge of official duty, in justifiable homicide cases, or when lawfully authorized by the Director of Public Safety.
   (c)   Whoever violates this section is guilty of pointing and discharging firearms, a misdemeanor of the third degree, and shall be subject to the penalty provided in Section 698.02.
