No person residing in the city and no firm or corporation having a place of business in the city shall use or cause or permit any of his or its agents or employees to use any motor vehicle, whether owned or leased by said person, firm or corporation, upon the streets or alleys of the city unless such motor vehicle is licensed, as hereinafter provided.
