5-10-1: DEFINITIONS:
ALARM SYSTEMS: Any assembly of equipment, mechanical or electrical, arranged to signal the occurrence of an illegal entry or other activity or condition requiring urgent attention and to which the police department is expected to respond. This includes, but is not limited to, those alarms commonly referred to as fire, burglar, holdup and medical alert.
ALARM USER: A person, firm, partnership, association, corporation, company or other organization of any kind in control of any building, structure, facility or vehicle where an alarm system is maintained or activated.
AUTOMATIC VOICE DIALING DEVICE: A device which is interconnected to a telephone line and is programmed to select a predetermined telephone number and transmit by a prerecorded voice message an emergency message indicating the need for a response.
DIRECT CONNECTION: An alarm system which has the capability of transmitting signals to and receiving them at the Police Communication Center.
FALSE ALARM: Any emergency signal produced by any alarm system, either local or central station or direct connection, which requires a response by the police department where no real emergency exists. This includes, but is not limited to, those caused by equipment malfunction, improper installation, human error or any unknown cause. The classification of alarms as false shall be the responsibility of the police department as appropriate.
LOCAL ALARM: An alarm system which when activated causes an outside audible or visual signal to be activated in or on the premises within which the system is installed. This includes vehicle alarms. (Ord. O-04-94, 3-7-1994; amd. Ord. O-06-2014, 3-3-2014)
