(a) In the absence of the Chief of Police, the Sergeant shall command the Police Department and shall perform all duties of the Chief of Police, including preservation of order and discipline and requiring strict compliance with the ordinances of the Village and the rules and regulations of the Department.

(b) With authorization from the Mayor, the senior officer in charge shall receive additional compensation as determined from time to time by Council.
