(a) Probationary Period. Each full-time police officer shall be appointed to his or her position by Council, upon recommendation of the Chief of Police and the Mayor. Such appointment shall be a probationary one and shall consist of a term of six (6) months. During such initial probationary term, the police officer shall serve at the discretion of Council and may, at any time, be dismissed and discharged from his or her position as a full-time police officer.
(b) Lateral Transfer.
(1) The Village of North Kingsville hereby creates a lateral transfer list for the position of full-time officers for the Village of North Kingsville Police Department. The Council may hire an individual for the position of full-time patrolman from the lateral transfer list.
(2) The following minimum qualifications are first required to submit an application:
A. Must possess current and valid OPOTA Certification or OPOTA Letter of Training Equivalency.
B. Must be currently employed as a full-time law enforcement officer as defined by Ohio R.C. Section 2901.01 or laid off from such a position within the year prior to your application and have a minimum of two (2) consecutive years of full-time law enforcement experience.
C. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, have attained a high school diploma, or G.E.D.
D. Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and have an acceptable driving record at time of employment.
E. Must pass a thorough background investigation and any and all other tests required by the Council.
(3) Lateral applicant appointed to full-time position of patrolman shall be placed at pay rate commensurate with his/her current years of full-time experience.
(4) Lateral applicant appointed to full-time position of patrolman shall receive vacation accrual commensurate with his/her current years of full-time experience.
(5) Lateral applicant appointed to full-time position of patrolman may receive credit for unused accumulated sick leave earned from another public entity however this credited time shall not be calculated toward sick time buy back at time of retirement.
(6) The Village of North Kingsville may waive the ninety (90)-day probationary period to allow the lateral applicant to be entitled to health insurance upon commencement of a full-time position.
