If, before his or her separation-from-service or after his or her separation-from-service and after he or she has made an irrevocable election of his or her distribution commencement date but before his or her distribution commencement date, the participant has an unforeseeable emergency that is approved by the Plan Administrator as satisfying § 34.016, the participant (but not a beneficiary or alternate payee) is entitled to receive a hardship distribution (as a cash lump sum) of the amount determined by the Plan Administrator to be the amount that is reasonably needed to satisfy the emergency need.
