(A) The Town Police Reserve is hereby created pursuant to I.C. 36-8-3-20.
(B) No more than seven town police reserve officers shall be on the force at any time.
(C) (1) The Town Metropolitan Police Commission shall propose rules of conduct and standards for training of town police reserves.
(2) In addition, the Town Metropolitan Police Commission shall determine the qualifications for appointment as a town police reserve officer. Such qualifications for appointment shall be approved by the Town Council.
(D) (1) Appointment as a town police reserve shall be by the Town Metropolitan Police Commission.
(2) No individual shall be appointed as a town police reserve until such individual shall have completed the training requirement prescribed by rules of the Department.
(E) Town police reserve officers shall be covered for medical treatment and burial expense, as provided by the state’s worker’s compensation and occupational diseases laws, for any covered claim which arises from the individual’s service as a town police reserve.
(F) All necessary uniforms and equipment for each town police reserve officer shall be provided by the town.
(G) Town police reserves are not members of the Department within the meaning of I.C. 36-8-3-4 and, as such, they serve as a town police reserve at the will of the Town Metropolitan Police Commission and are not entitled to any of the processes described in that statute.
(H) The uniform for a town police reserve shall be distinguished from a regular member of the Department by including the notation “Police Reserve” on the badge issued to such officer and the notation “Reserve” on the shoulder patch worn on the uniform.
