For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
APPLICANT. Any person, partnership or corporation applying for a taxicab operator permit.
OPERATOR. Any person, partnership, corporation or other entity engaged in the business of owning and operating taxicabs for hire.
TAXICAB. A vehicle driven by mechanical power, designed to carry not more than seven passengers, for public hire, and not operated on a fixed route.
TAXICAB DRIVER. Any person who is in actual physical control of a taxicab and is operating the taxicab for hire.
TAXICAB OPERATOR PERMIT. A permit issued by the town to the operator, allowing the operator to conduct taxicab business within the town’s jurisdiction.
VEHICLE NUMBER. Unique numbering for each vehicle owned by a particular operator. This number should be a two digit or a three digit number posted in three places on the outside of each taxicab vehicle.
