8-2-10: DOG BITES:
   A.   The owner of any dog, which has bitten or attacked any person, or any person having knowledge of such bite or attack, shall immediately report such fact to the city marshal or assistant marshal. The report shall include name and address of the person bitten or attacked, and if known, time and location of the bite or attack, description of the dog, and name and address of the owner of such dog.
   B.   It shall be the duty of every physician or nurse to immediately inform the city marshal or assistant, followed within twenty four (24) hours with a written report, of the name and address of any person treated for bites inflicted by a dog, together with such other information as will assist in the prevention of rabies or other disease and the identification and apprehension of the biting dog.
   C.   Upon demand by the city marshal or assistant, the owner shall forthwith surrender any dog which has bitten or attacked any person, for supervised quarantine in the dog control center at the expense of the owner. The dog shall remain confined for a minimum period of fourteen (14) days, under the observation of a licensed veterinarian.
   D.   When evidence is presented that such dog is currently inoculated against rabies, the city marshal or assistant, at his discretion, may give written order to confine the dog in the home of its owner, or in such a manner so as to prohibit the dog from coming into contact with or biting any other person or animal, for a minimum of fourteen (14) days; provided, however, that the owner is willing to comply with the terms of the order and the owner has the means to adequately confine the dog. It shall be unlawful for any owner to fail to comply with such an order.
   E.   Any dog which has bitten or attacked any person shall be examined by a licensed veterinarian and a written report of the dog's clinical condition shall be forwarded to the city marshal or assistant within twenty four (24) hours.
   F.   At the end of the confinement period, the veterinarian shall reexamine the dog and submit to the city marshal or assistant a written report of the dog's final clinical condition, recommending whether or not the quarantine should be terminated.
   G.   No owner of any dog known to have bitten any person shall euthanize, sell, give away or transport from this city, or otherwise dispose of such dog, until written release from the required quarantine for such dog is obtained from the city marshal or assistant.
   H.   All expenses incurred in the confinement and reexamination of any dog, pursuant to the provisions of this section, shall be borne by the owner of such dog. (Ord. 1997-3, 10-14-1997)
