8-2-2: LICENSE REQUIRED; TAGS:
Every owner or keeper of any dog in the city shall, on or before May 1 of each year, make application to the city clerk for a license for the privilege of so keeping such dog within the city for the ensuing fiscal year; and shall pay for such license the sum of three dollars ($3.00); provided, that if any dog shall be brought within the city after May 1 in any year, such application and the fee therefor shall be made at the time the dog is so brought within the city.
Upon receipt of such application and written proof of current inoculation against rabies as well as the appropriate fee, the clerk shall issue a distinctive device, hereinafter referred to as a "tag", evidencing the issuance of such license and identifying the dog and owner thereof for which it was issued; and shall enter on a register maintained for such purposes, a memorandum of the issuance of such license for such year, the name of the owner or keeper, a description of the dog, and the number of the tag; provided, that if an owner or keeper shall make affidavit to the clerk that such tag has been lost and shall tender a fee of two dollars ($2.00), the clerk shall issue a substitute tag and make appropriate entry in such register.
