6-3-4: APPROVAL:
Upon approval of the application for building permit by the Nauvoo city council, the applicant shall pay the permit fee as set forth in the application and then the applicant has ninety (90) days to begin construction. The building permit will expire ninety (90) days from the date of approval. If construction work is suspended or abandoned for a period of ninety (90) days at any time after work is commenced, the permit becomes null and void and a new building permit must be reapplied for the project. For commercial construction, the building inspector has the authority to grant final approval of building permit applications when the dollar amount does not exceed five thousand dollars ($5,000.00). The report of the building inspector's actions will be submitted to the streets, buildings and grounds committee monthly for review and submission to the city council.
For construction of a new private residence or altering an existing private residence: a) a building permit is required, only if the footprint is new or altered, or if the foundation, bearing walls, beams, or trusses are added or relocated; or if the purpose and use of a building is altered and b) consultation with the building inspector is required for plumbing and electrical changes and roofing. Licensed contractors may be required for these activities. The report of the building inspector's actions will be submitted to the streets, buildings and grounds committee monthly for review and submission to the city council.
For construction not requiring a building permit, the owner may request consultation with the inspector. A fee may be charged. (Ord. 2008-3, 4-14-2009)
