(A) Gate valves shall be provided as specified by the city. In general, gate valves and boxes shall be provided at intersections of arterial mains at interconnections with existing city mains, on dead-end mains (note that dead-end mains are discouraged), and at overall maximum 800-foot spacing.
(B) Gate valves and boxes shall also be provided on each fire hydrant lead. Valve boxes shall be plumb, and shall be adjusted to finish grade.
(C) Gate valves and boxes shall comply with applicable AWWA Standards, and shall be set in accordance with Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Main Construction in Illinois, most recent edition.
(D) All gate valves shall turn counterclockwise to open.
