§ 50.042 WATER MAINS.
   (A)   Size. Water mains shall not be smaller than six-inch diameter. In areas where the city desires larger than a six-inch main, the city reserves the right to require the larger main size, and the city will pay for the difference in price between the six-inch and the larger main.

   (B)   Pipe materials.
      (1)   Water main pipe material shall be as specified by the city, and shall be at least equivalent to the following, in accord with applicable AWWA Standards:
         (a)   Cast iron: Class 150, Thickness Class 22 (cement lined);
         (b)   Ductile iron: Class 52 (cement lined);
         (c)   Asbestos Cement: Class 150; and
         (d)   PVC (rubberring jt.): SDR 21.
      (2)   Where necessary, ferrous metal pipe materials shall be protected from corrosion.

   (C)   Depth of cover. A minimum of three and one-half feet of cover shall be provided over the crown of the water main pipe. In areas subject to future cut or fill, the depth shall be adjusted such that the required three and one-half-foot cover will be provided to finish grade.

   (D)   Backfill material. Select granular backfill shall be provided under existing roadways or driveways, and shall extend at least four feet beyond the edge of such roadways and driveways.
