The Fire Chief shall divide the members of the Fire Department into not less than three platoons. The Chief shall keep such a platoon of the Fire Department on duty twenty-four consecutive hours, after which the platoon serving twenty-four hours shall be scheduled to remain off duty for a period of at least forty-eight consecutive hours.
