In accordance with I.C. 36-8-8-16, the Police Pension Fund of the city shall provide a death benefit in the amount set forth in that statute per member for each member, whether that member is a member of the 1977 Fund or the pre-1977 Fund. The death benefit shall be payable after the death of a member to the deceased member’s spouse or estate, but if there is no surviving spouse and no estate, then to the heirs of the deceased member pursuant to the provisions of I.C. 29-1-8-1.
