§ 31.30 ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER.
   (A)   The Board of Public Works and Safety (Board) shall appoint an individual as a special police officer to perform the duties of Animal Control Officer within the city. Hereinafter this officer shall be referred to as the Animal Control Officer.
   (B)   The Animal Control Officer shall serve at the pleasure of the Board and may be removed by the Board at any time without notice and without assigning any cause.
   (C)   The Animal Control Officer shall serve under the supervision of the Police Chief. The Animal Control Officer shall obey all laws of the State of Indiana and all ordinances and resolutions of the city, and all rules, regulations, and SOPs of the Mt. Vernon Police Department as they apply to the duties authorized herein.
   (D)   The Animal Control Officer shall be provided and shall wear a uniform and be assigned identification so long as it is easily distinguishable from the uniform of City of Mt. Vernon, Posey County, and State of Indiana regular police officers.
   (E)   The Animal Control Officer shall have the authority to investigate and take all actions necessary to enforce all provisions of state laws, the duly adopted city ordinances and resolutions concerning animals, and the provisions of Chapter 91 as required. These powers and duties shall not be exclusive to the Animal Control Officer. The Animal Control Officer shall have all powers, privileges, and duties established by the job description adopted by the Board for the Animal Control Officer position.
   (F)   The compensation of the Animal Control Officer shall be set by the city's annual salary ordinance.
   (G)   The person appointed as Animal Control Officer may also be appointed as the Code Enforcement Officer.
