Should a vacancy occur in any office of the City after the adoption of this Charter and prior to January 1, 1977, such vacancy shall be filled in the manner provided in the existing Charter of the City and the person so appointed or elected shall serve until the time that the term of office to which he-she was appointed or elected expires under the provisions of the existing Charter, except as modified by this Charter.
