151.16 PAY INCREASES FOR EMPLOYEES WHO ARE APPOINTED TO AN ACTING POSITION OF SUPERVISION.
   (a)   Definitions.
      (1)   "Acting Position" is defined as a temporary appointment of an employee to the position of department supervisor.
      (2)   "Extended illness or leave of absence" means the department supervisor has been absent from his position for a minimum period of ten weeks and it is uncertain as to when he or she will return to work.
      (3)   "Termination, resignation, or retirement" means the department supervisor has vacated his position permanently.
      (4)   "Acting position" means a temporary appointment to the position of supervisor.
   (b)   Employees Appointed to Acting Positions of Supervision When the Department Supervisor is Suffering an Extended Illness or is Away on an Extended Leave of Absence.
      (1)   Under this situation, an employee will not be appointed to an acting position until the regular department supervisor has been absent for ten weeks.
      (2)   After the ten week period the employee who is in acting position of supervision shall receive his or her regular wages or hourly rate plus fifty percent (50%) of the difference between the employee's regular rate of pay and the supervisor's rate of pay.
   (c)   Employees Appointed to Acting Positions of Supervision Due to Retirement or Termination of the Supervisor.
      (1)   Under this situation an employee can, at the discretion of Council, be appointed immediately to an acting position of supervisor for the department.
      (2)   The employee shall receive his or her regular wages or hourly rate plus fifty percent (50%) of the difference between the employee's regular rate of pay and the supervisor's rate of pay.
   (d)   Procedure.
      (1)   The appointment to an acting position can only be made by Council at a regular or special meeting.
      (2)   The Mayor will have the authority to appoint an employee to an acting position until the next meeting of Council.
