§ 99.07 UNIFORM SYSTEM FOR NUMBERING PROPERTIES AND PRINCIPAL BUILDINGS.
   (A)   A uniform system of numbering properties and principal buildings is hereby established, with the numbering system to be based upon thoroughfares of the town, all as shown on the map bearing the title “Street Numbering of Town of Morristown, Ordinance 1981-1",which is incorporated herein and made a part hereof, said map being filed with the office of the Town Clerk-Treasurer.
   (B)   All properties or parcels of land within the corporate limits of the town from time to time shall hereafter be identified by reference to the numbering system adopted by this section. As a general principle for the assignment of numbers, a separate number shall be utilized for each approximately 20 linear feet of street frontage in a residential area, and a separate number shall be established for every approximately ten feet of linear street frontage in a commercial area. Each principal building shall bear the number assigned to the frontage on which the front entrance is located. In case a principal building has more than one business or family dwelling unit with separate front entrances, then each business or family unit having a separate front entrance, shall bear a separate number.
   (C)   The Clerk-Treasurer shall have discretion and be responsible for administering and maintaining the numbering system, and may change a street number. Whenever there shall be a building or residence within the town limits not having a street number in compliance with the numbering system, by reason of annexation of territory, erection or altering of a house or building, or otherwise, the owner thereof shall apply to the Clerk-Treasurer or his or her authorized representative for the assignment of a number to the house or building. The Clerk-Treasurer or his or her representative may assign a street number without an application being made therefor.
   (D)   The owner of each house or building shall post and maintain at all times the numeral assigned to the owner's house or building, regardless of whether such numeral is assigned at the effective date of this section or thereafter. The numerals indicating the official numbers for each principal building or each front entrance to a building shall be placed on the property in such a manner as to be plainly visible and readable from the street upon which the property is located. The Clerk-Treasurer shall keep record of all numbers assigned under this section. It shall be unlawful for any property owner to maintain any number upon his or her house or building other than the one assigned by the Clerk-Treasurer.
