    (b)   Eligible Employees.
      (1)    Full-time regular employees are eligible to be paid for the official holidays of the Village immediately upon employment.
      (2)    Eligible employees must be working, or if not working, in active pay status (e.g., using accrued vacation, personal leave, etc.) on the last scheduled day immediately preceding the holiday and the first scheduled day immediately following the holiday to be eligible for holiday pay.
         A.    Non-exempt employees will receive holiday pay equal to the number of hours normally scheduled to work on that day of the week times the total hourly rate of pay.
         B.    Exempt employees will receive holiday pay equal to their total annual salary divided by 2,080 and then multiplied times eight (8).
         C.    An officially recognized holiday that falls on a Saturday will be observed on the preceding Friday except that when Christmas falls on a Saturday, it will be observed on the next following Monday as an additional holiday.
An officially recognized holiday that falls on a Sunday will be observed on the following Monday except that when Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on the preceding Friday. When Christmas falls on a Thursday, the Mayor may establish the day after Christmas as an additional holiday.
   (c)    Police Department Employees. Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (b)(2) hereof, employees in the Police Department will receive the holidays identified in this section on January 1 of each year and may use them as "floating holidays." Each Police Department employee shall submit a schedule to the Police Chief or their designee for approval listing the dates on which they would like to take the holidays. The Police Chief or designee will approve or deny the request, provided, however, that absent extenuating circumstances, Police Department employees shall be permitted to take all of the identified holidays in the calendar year in which the corresponding holidays fall. In connection with the submission of the proposed schedule for use of holidays, each employee shall be required to agree, in writing, that if their employment should end before the actual calendar occurrence of any holiday for which they have been paid prior to separation, they shall be responsible for and required to reimburse the Village for the pay received for such holiday. In such a situation, the Village may, without limiting its remedies, deduct such advanced holiday pay from any final pay otherwise due to the employee upon separation.
Subject to the discretionary, written approval of the Mayor, in extenuating circumstances a Police Department employee may be permitted to take holidays in advance of the occurrence of the holiday(s) or the Police Chief-approved schedule of holiday usage, in lieu of otherwise unpaid leave, so long as the employee has agreed to repayment of all holidays taken in advance, as described above.
