(A) The city may authorize an animal shelter or shelters, or it may take steps to negotiate a cooperative agreement with a licensed veterinarian for the establishment and operation of an animal shelter.
(B) Any dog or cat found off the owner’s premises and not wearing a valid rabies vaccination tag may be impounded. All impounded dogs or cats shall be given proper care and maintenance. Each impounded dog or cat shall be kept and maintained as required under § 90.03 unless reclaimed earlier by the owner.
(C) Notice of impoundment of all animals shall be in accordance with § 90.03. Any unvaccinated dog or cat may be conditionally reclaimed by its owner during the period of impoundment by payment of prescribed fees and complying with rabies vaccination requirements of this chapter prior to release. Any vaccinated dog or cat impounded because of lack of rabies vaccination tag may be reclaimed during normal business hours by its owner by furnishing proof of rabies vaccination, paying all prescribed fees prior to release, as described in § 90.04, and by obtaining a rabies vaccination tag.
(D) If the dog or cat is unclaimed at the end of five (5) regular business days, the authority may dispose of the dog or cat in accordance with § 90.03.
