It is the policy of the town to defend and indemnify all elected officers and officials and all employees of the town with respect to lawsuits and claims brought against them for the performance of acts or services and for the nonperformance of acts or services within the scope of that officer, official, or employee's duties or employment. However, the provisions of this section shall not apply if the officer, official, or employee is adequately covered under an insurance policy of the town.
