(a) Employees in the classification of firefighter officially assigned to act in the position of Firefighter-Emergency Squad shall receive the additional compensation normally paid to those members of the Emergency Squad for the period of time when the acting position exists. Method of payment shall be determined in accordance with administrative regulations.
(b) Any firefighter officially assigned to act in a higher position, not vacant, on a temporary basis, for more than two continuous tours of duty, shall be raised one step in pay for time working in such acting position beyond two tours. Should the position become vacant, it shall be filled according to State civil service law. Rules and regulations for assignment shall be prescribed by the City Manager.
