§ 98.01 POLICY STATEMENT.
The city recognizes the scientifically-proven adverse health affects caused by the use of tobacco products. In order to protect the health and welfare of its citizens, the city encourages its employees to refrain from smoking or otherwise using tobacco products. The city further finds and declares that it is the express policy of the state to prohibit smoking in indoor public places, places of employment, and or within 15 feet of the entrances, exits, windows, and ventilation intakes of public places or places of employment. Further, the city finds that the state has adopted a Smoke-Free Illinois Act which prohibits smoking in indoor public places, places of employment, and or withing 15 feet of the entrances, exits, windows and ventilation intakes to a public place or place of employment and further prohibits the smoking of tobacco products within any vehicle owned, leased or operated by the state or a political subdivision of the state. Accordingly, it shall be the policy of the city that all city employees shall comply with the Smoke-Free Illinois Act as it now exists or is hereafter amended and all rules and regulations established pursuant to the Act.
