§ 31.037 TEMPORARY ABSENCE OF THE MAYOR.
   (A)   During a temporary absence because of an incapacity to perform official duties, the City Council may, in accordance with applicable statutes, elect one of its number to act as Mayor pro tem, who, during such absence of the Mayor shall possess the powers of the Mayor.
   (B)    In the absence of the Mayor or Mayor pro tem, the corporate authorities may elect one of their members as temporary Chairperson with powers as provided by statute.
