Smoke detectors shall be mounted on the ceiling, or on a wall not more than twelve inches from the ceiling, at a point centrally located or in a suitable location of access in rooms used for sleeping purposes in single story dwellings, and in accessways from the basement to the first floor. In addition, detectors shall be centrally located on the ceiling of the main room in an efficiency dwelling unit and at the center of the ceiling directly above the stairway where sleeping rooms are on an upper level.
This section is applicable to single station operation only. Care should be exercised to ensure that the installation will not interfere with the operating characteristics of the detector.
