   (a)    Each full-time employee of the City shall be entitled to sick leave of one and one-fourth workdays with pay for each completed calendar month of service. Full-time fire-fighters shall be entitled to twelve and one-half hours with pay for each completed calendar month of service. Sick leave may be used, upon the approval of the immediate department head, for absence due to illness, injury, exposure to contagious disease and serious illness in the employee's immediate family. Unused sick leave shall be cumulative without limit. Sick leave accumulated at another public agency shall be credited to the employee while in the employ of the City. Any employee may, upon approval of the Mayor, be granted additional sick leave in cases of serious illness or injury in excess of such employee's accumulated sick leave credit. Such additional sick leave shall be repaid to the City by deducting it as it is earned, once the employee returns to work.

   (c)   Subsection (b) hereof shall not affect the sick leave credit of any other employees of the City whose sick leave eligibility is otherwise governed by City ordinance or State statute.
   (d)   Department heads shall require any employee of the City using any sick leave to furnish a satisfactory affidavit or other evidence that his absence was caused by or due to any of the reasons enumerated in this section.
