232.07   PART-TIME PROVISIONAL PARAMEDIC-FIREFIGHTER.
There is hereby established the position of part-time provisional paramedic-firefighter as a separate and distinct position within the Fire Department, in addition to the current positions of full-time firefighter and part-time firefighter.
The persons who become employed in the position of part-time provisional paramedic-firefighter shall be exempt from taking the Civil Service test, provided that the Civil Service Commission authorizes such an exemption, and, further, the persons who become employed in the position of part-time provisional paramedic firefighter shall be exempt from the three-mile residency restriction that currently applies to all full-time and part-time firefighters.
No person who is employed as a part-time provisional paramedic-firefighter is eligible to participate in the part-time firefighter promotional process. No person who is employed as a part-time provisional paramedic-firefighter is eligible to take the test to become a full-time firefighter unless he or she is subsequently hired by the City as a part-time firefighter who has met all Civil Service testing, residency restrictions and any other requirement of the Civil Service Commission for the hiring of a part-time firefighter. All part-time provisional paramedic-firefighters are eligible to take the part-time firefighter's Civil Service test and, if they pass the test and meet the three-mile residency requirement and all other Civil Service requirements, then such a person shall be eligible to be appointed as a part-time firefighter for the City.
