7-1-7: FIREFIGHTERS:
   A.   Qualifications: All officers and members of the fire department shall be not less than eighteen (18) nor more than sixty five (65) years of age and must be able bodied; provided, however, that an officer or member of the fire department may continue as an officer or member after reaching sixty five (65) years of age by special permission of the council.
   B.   Probationary Period: Firefighters shall become members of the fire department only after a twelve (12) month probationary period after their appointment in accordance with section 7-1-2 of this chapter. The city council may require that each candidate, before he may become a probationary firefighter, satisfy certain minimum requirements of height, weight, physical and mental condition or any other qualifications as may be specified by the council.    C.   Loss Of Membership: Firefighters absent from three (3) consecutive drills or calls, or a total of ten (10) drills or calls in any one calendar year, unless excused therefrom by the chief, shall forfeit membership in the department. (1981 Code 101 § 7)
