There is hereby established an Auxiliary Police Force by virtue of the authority granted under KRS 67.083.
(A) The membership of the Auxiliary Police Force shall be in such number as determined by the County Judge/Executive to be useful and desirable but not to exceed 15 members.
(B) Each member of the Auxiliary Police Force shall be appointed by the County Judge/Executive in writing and each officer thereof shall be approved by said County Judge/Executive, and any member or officer of said Auxiliary Police Force may be removed at any time and without cause by the County Judge/Executive.
(C) Each member of the Auxiliary Police Force shall be a resident of the county; in good physical condition; a high school graduate; a person of sobriety and integrity, and have been an orderly, law-abiding citizen of at least 21 years of age. The requirement of being a high school graduate may be waived if the person being considered has seven or more years’ experience in law enforcement, including auxiliary police work.
(D) Before entering upon the performance of his or her duties, each member of the Auxiliary Police Force shall be sworn in by the County Judge/Executive and shall execute a bond in the sum of $1,000 with corporate surety to be approved by the County Judge/Executive, conditioned that he or she will faithfully perform the duties of his or her office. The premium for such bond shall be paid by the County Fiscal Court.
(E) No assignment shall be accepted and no duties shall be performed by a member or officer of the Auxiliary Police Force except on direct order of the County Judge/Executive, or in his or her absence, the order of the Chief of the County Police Force.
(F) When on active duty under an assignment as provided herein, each member of the Auxiliary Police Force shall have the powers of other peace officers of the county.
(G) No salary or wages or other compensation shall be paid by the county to any member or officer of the Auxiliary Police Force, and none of them shall acquire any rights or benefits under the rules or laws governing the members of the County Police Department.
