CHAPTER 70:  TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

   70.01   Stopping at stop signs

§ 70.01  STOPPING AT STOP SIGNS.
   (A)   The purpose of this section is to regulate compliance with the stop signs directing the flow of traffic on public streets within the town for the protection of public health, safety and welfare.
   (B)   Whenever a stop sign is erected at or near an intersection, and duly ordained by an ordinance of the Town Council, every driver of a vehicle shall come to a complete stop:
      (1)   Parallel to the stop sign;
      (2)   Before a marked stop line; or
      (3)   Before a marked crosswalk prior to cautiously entering into the intersection, unless traffic at the intersection is controlled by a police officer, in which event every driver shall comply with the direction of the police officer.
   (C)   An officer of the Town Police Department may issue a citation for a failure to comply with a duly erected stop sign within the corporate boundaries of the town.

§ 70.99  PENALTY.
   (A)   Any person violating any provision of this chapter for which no specific penalty is prescribed shall be subject to § 10.99.
   (B)   There is hereby added to this penalty the additional penalty of attorney’s fees incurred by the town if civil action through a court of competent jurisdiction is required in order to enforce the provisions of this chapter.
   (C)   Any person violating § 70.01 shall be subject to a fine of not less than $50 for the first violation and $75 for the second violation. All fines prescribed by this division (C) for violation shall be paid to the Town Ordinance Violations Bureau, which shall render to the person making payment a receipt stating the amount and purpose for which the fine has been paid, a duplicate of which shall be made a part of the records of the town.
