Except as otherwise directed, concrete walks and driveway aprons and driveways shall be of one course of portland cement concrete. In addition:
(a) Residential walks shall be four inches thick on two inches of compacted granular base, except at driveway aprons, where the walks and aprons shall be six inches thick on two inches of compacted granular base with six inch by six inch by No. 10 wire mesh or fiber mesh reinforcement.
(b) Concrete for walks and driveway aprons and driveways shall be in accordance with the Ohio Department of Transportation, Construction and Material Specifications for Class C concrete (4.000 psi at 28 days) with the following additional requirements:
(1) Maximum water gallons per sack: 6.5
(2) Minimum cement sacks per cubic yard: 6.5
(3) Maximum water to cement ratio shall not exceed 0.50
(4) Concrete shall contain 6 ± 2% of total air
(5) Maximum size aggregate: 1 inch
(6) Approximate weight (pounds per sack of cement)
For fine: 1.80; and
Coarse: 2.70
(7) Approximate volume (cubic feet per sack of cement)
For fine: 2.00; and
Coarse: 3.00
(c) Except as otherwise noted, sidewalks shall be five feet in width or match the existing sidewalks.
(d) Expansion joints shall be installed where new portland cement concrete abuts existing concrete and at a maximum of every 25 feet.
(e) Construction joints shall be at every five feet.
(f) Residential driveways, not including the aprons and sidewalk section, shall be four inches thick with six inch by six inch by No. 10 wire mesh or fiber mesh reinforcing on four inches of compacted stone base.
(g) Commercial driveway aprons and crossover sidewalks shall be eight inches thick with six inch by six inch by W4 x W4 wire mesh or fiber mesh reinforcement on four inches of compacted stone base.
