139.14 AUXILIARY POLICE.
   (a)   Pursuant to Ohio R.C. 737.051, there is hereby established an Auxiliary Police Unit in the Division of Police. Such Unit shall consist of a membership not exceeding thirty persons, and who shall be subject to appointment and removal by the Director of Public Safety. The Director shall promulgate rules and regulations for the organization, training, administration, control and conduct of the Unit.
   (b)   Members of the Unit are not authorized to carry firearms, nor are they authorized to enforce the general criminal laws of the City or the State. Therefore, they are not required to comply with Ohio R.C. 109.77 with respect to certification by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council.
   (c)   Members of the Unit are not eligible for membership in the Police Disability and Pension Fund under Ohio R.C. Chapter 742, and they shall not be in the classified service of the Municipality.

   (d)   Each member of the Unit shall be paid, as compensation for his or her work, such sum as is authorized from time to time by Council, and shall be eligible to receive disability or death benefits under the Workers' Compensation Act as provided in Ohio R.C. Chapter 4123.
