Before an owner enters into an agreement for the sale of a multiple dwelling, he or she shall exhibit to the prospective buyer of the premises a copy of the certificate of occupancy. As evidence of the owner's compliance with the requirements of this section, the owner shall obtain the signature of the prospective buyer or of his or her agent on the certificate of occupancy, or on a copy thereof, in the space indicated on the certificate, together with the date of the signature.
