305.02 CROSSWALKS; SAFETY ZONES; TRAFFIC LANES; CLOSED STREETS; STOP INTERSECTIONS.
The Director of Public Safety is hereby authorized:
   (a)    To designate and maintain, by appropriate devices, marks, or lines upon the surface of the roadway, crosswalks at intersections where in his opinion there is particular danger to pedestrians crossing the roadway, and at such other places as he may deem necessary.
   (b)   To establish safety zones along any bus line at any regularly designated bus stop, and to establish safety islands on any of the public streets in such places and in such manner as he shall determine to be of the greatest benefit and convenience to the public. Every such safety zone or safety island shall be designated by appropriate markers, standards or signs erected or placed in the street and so located as to plainly indicate the boundary thereof.
      (c)    To mark lanes for traffic on street pavements at such places as he may deem advisable, consistent with the provisions of this Traffic Code.
      (d)    To close temporarily any street, alley, or portion of the same to traffic, or to temporarily divert such traffic therefrom, when he deems it in the interest of public safety or convenience.
      (e)    To permanently close, or convert any street to a dead end street, or otherwise modify a street traffic pattern within the City of Maumee, upon approval by Maumee City Council.
      (f)    To designate main residential streets and stop intersections, and to determine the right of way at such intersections. Such intersections shall be marked with stop signs, unless otherwise directed by Council.
      (g)    The Director of Public Safety may determine those portions of any street where overtaking and passing other traffic or driving to the left of the center or center line of the roadway would be especially hazardous, and may, by appropriate signs or markings on the street, indicate the beginning and end of such zones. When such signs or markings are in place and clearly visible, every operator of a vehicle shall obey the directions thereof, notwithstanding the distances set forth in Section 331.06 of this Code.
