(A) Connection to public sewer. At such time as a public sewer becomes available to a property served by a private sewage disposal system, as provided herein, a direct connection shall be made to the public sewer in compliance with this code, the building sewer shall be connected to the public sewer within 90 days.
(B) Abandoned treatment units. Septic tanks, cesspools, pit privies, aerobic treatment plants and seepage pits that are no longer in use shall be completely pumped. The floor and walls shall be cracked or crumbled so that the tank will not hold water, and the tank shall be filled with sand, clean bank-run gravel, or soil. The owner of the property shall provide a receipt from the company showing the date when the pumping of the tank was completed. If the tank is removed from the ground, the excavation shall be filled with soil. The abandoned treatment unit shall be inspected by the Water/Sewer Superintendent, or their representative, as follows: after the cracking or crumbling of the walls and floors, and after the backfilling process has been completed.
