(A) There is hereby established the office of the Deputy Fire Chief. The Deputy Fire Chief shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Village Board. The rank of Deputy Fire Chief shall be an exempt rank immediately below that of the Fire Chief. The Deputy Fire Chief shall possess and maintain certifications of a firefighter/paramedic. The Deputy Fire Chief shall serve at the discretion of the Fire Chief and Mayor and, if removed from the office, shall revert to the rank previously held, without regard as to whether a vacancy exists in that rank.
(B) The Deputy Fire Chief shall be second in command to the Fire Chief. The Deputy Fire Chief shall be responsible to and report to the Fire Chief, pursuant to the statutes of the state, ordinances of the village, and the resolutions, motions and directives of the corporate authorities. The Deputy Fire Chief shall provide those services as required by the Fire Chief. In the event there is a vacancy in the office of Fire Chief, or in the event the Fire Chief is incapacitated or otherwise not able to perform the duties of the office, the Deputy Fire Chief shall have the same powers and duties generally as that of the Fire Chief during any vacancy in that office or during the absence or incapacity of the Fire Chief. The Deputy Fire Chief shall possess such powers and duties until such time as the vacancy in the office of Fire Chief is filled or until such time as the Fire Chief is no longer absent or incapacitated.
(C) The compensation for the office of Deputy Fire Chief shall be established from time to time by the Mayor and Village Board of Trustees.
