(A) Any firefighter shall be subject to suspension or discharge, for cause, after a fair and impartial hearing before the Village Board, upon written charges filed with the Board. The Board shall conduct the hearing within 30 days of the filing thereof. In case an officer or firefighters of the Fire Department is found guilty, the Board may discharge him or her or suspend him or her for a definite term without pay.
(B) (1) Additionally, the Chief of the Fire Department shall have the power to suspend, without pay, a member of the Fire Department for a period of not more than 30 days, but he or she shall notify the Village Board, in writing, of the suspension.
(2) Any firefighter so suspended may appeal to the Village Board within 72 hours after the suspension, and upon the appeal, the Board may sustain the action of the Chief, may reverse it or may suspend the firefighters for an additional period of time certain, or may discharge him or her, depending on the facts of the case.
