§ 33.100 DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED.
   (A)   There is hereby established a Fire Department for the prevention and extinguishment of fire endangering life and property within the limits of the village and beyond the village limits where contractual fire protection agreements have been or may be made by or with the village.

   (B)   (1)   The personnel of the Fire Department, who shall be called “firefighter” or “firefighters,” shall consist of part-time employees who shall be hired by the Village Mayor and Board of Trustees in the same manner as other village employees. All such employees shall be of the minimum age of 18 years and shall consist in number as may, from time to time, be found necessary to carry out the functions of the Fire Department, such as the prevention and extinguishing of fires and responding to emergencies. Village officials and employees of other departments shall be eligible as personnel of the Fire Department, but shall be compensated for services rendered as a firefighter while on duty as an employee of the village in some other capacity. Additionally, all village officers and department heads, whether elected or appointed, shall be included for receiving compensation for services as a firefighter.
      (2)   All part-time and volunteer personnel of the Fire Department shall reside within four miles of the village fire station to either be appointed as a member or to retain their membership.
