§ 34.43 USE OF POLICE POWERS.
   (A)   Police officers are endowed with certain powers, including the right to take a life. It is the individual officer's responsibility to know the current laws and court opinions with respect to the use of force.
   (B)   Because of the tremendous impact the use of these powers can have on the officer, the Police Department, the suspect, the suspect's family and the community, great care must be taken in the use of these powers. The following are references to the use of police powers:
      (1)   Deadly force — ILCS Ch. 720, Act 5, § 7-8, as amended.
      (2)   Making arrest — ILCS Ch. 720, Act 5, § 7-5, as amended.
      (3)   Defense of dwelling — ILCS Ch. 720, Act 5, § 7-2, as amended.
      (4)   Defense of person — ILCS Ch. 720, Act 5, § 7-1, as amended.
      (5)   Preventing escape — ILCS Ch. 720, Act 5, § 7-9, as amended.
   (C)   All officers shall remain knowledgeable of all changes made by the legislature or the courts, and officers shall be held accountable for their individual actions.
