No circus, carnival, theater, concert, exhibition, show, entertainment or amusement of any kind for the witnessing of which an admission fee is charged, unless given under the auspices and for the benefit of an association or society or church or charitable purpose, shall be given, exhibited, or performed within the city without a license therefor.
